CHHOP and Davoren Farm Partnered to Host a Food Equity Forum, “Transforming Our Food System”

Davoren Farm, operated by Peter Davoren and Stacey Farley, grows food for local food pantries, including CHHOP’s Fred’s Pantry. During the forum, approximately 100 guests gathered in a beautiful, rustic barn, which was filled with engaging conversation about how we can come together to overcome food insecurity.
The discussion was kicked off by a moving short film, CHHOP's ""Harvesting Hope,"" which illustrates some of the work that is being done to support the fight against food insecurity on a local level. This was followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. The panel of experts included Jason Angell, Co-Director of the Ecological Citizen’s Project; Stacy Farley, Co-Owner of Davoren Farm; Arthur Holmes, Fred's Pantry Coordinator; and Cynthia Knox.
This important dialogue is a first step in collective efforts to ensure access to healthy, nutritious food for all, reduce our carbon footprint, and sustain organic, regenerative farming practices that will impact us for generations. Everyone left in agreement that the time is now to transform our food system to be more equitable and help everyone thrive.
Food pantries were started over 50 years ago as a temporary solution to a crisis situation. CHHOP has been addressing housing and food insecurity in Peekskill and its surrounding areas for 35 years. United Way’s 211 Helpline offers health and human services information, referral, assessment, and crisis support to help callers find the assistance they need to address the everyday challenges of living, as well as those that develop during times of disaster and other community emergencies. 211 is a confidential and comprehensive service that has enabled government and not-for-profit agencies to realize concrete cost savings as well as increased customer service to residents throughout our service area.
Westchester Children's Association focuses on key issues that affect the most vulnerable young people in Westchester County. They are a key resource for socio-economic data, analysis and reports related to critical issues impacting Westchester’s youth.
WLS offers robust, community centered outreach programs and resources, collaborating with 38 member libraries, community agencies and nonprofits to serve the County’s most vulnerable populations.
Westchester Center for Racial Equity of the YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester
The Westchester Center for Racial Equity provided a dedicated space for working towards racial equity in Westchester County. The Center is a hub for county wide training and other resources organizations and individuals committed to racial equity, racial justice, and antiracism.

The report provides framework for examining the four key problems, essential questions and recommended solutions to help Westchester’s nonprofits evolve into anti-racist organizations.
The “Welcome Home Westchester” campaign is a collaborative effort of businesses, nonprofits, academics, faith leaders, community advocates, and think tanks that have extensively examined the housing question to drive forward a new conversation around housing in the county and to advocate for affordable housing. Recent hite papers, reports and resources offer facts on the importance and benefits of building the housing we need in Westchester.
The League of Women Voters of Westchester is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote informed and active participation in government. They provide resources and review and educate the community on issues and actions that impact the County as a whole.
